5 Finger Paints, 5 Less On My Untried Shelf!

Above & Below: Please disregard my cuticles. I used a different product (Avon) instead of my usual Sally Hansen cuticle remover and it was very hard on my skin and cuticles. Turquoise Tile is a perfect turquoise shimmer. Lilac Lagoon is also a favorite, with it's delicate color and subtle gold shimmer.
Below: Butterscotch Cookie is an eye-catching gold shimmer. It's bright and shiny, just as gold should be!
Below: Yellow Bikini and Ripe Peach are both nice creme-type shades that have the slightest hint of shimmer to them. My only complaint was that I needed 3 coats, instead of the usual 2.
With so many untried's, a problem I know many of us have, I decided to swatch some Finger Paints that have been patiently awaiting their turn! Finger Paints makes a great quality product, but because they're only available at Sally Beauty, I think they go unnoticed by a large percentage of people. The first two I swatched, Ripe Peach and Yellow Bikini, appear to be cremes. If you look closely, you can see the slightest hint of a shimmery sheen. I liked the shades very much, but I had to use 3 coats to get total coverage. They performed more like pastel creme shades do, which often cause me problems upon the application. The other 3, Butterscotch Cookie, Turquoise Tile, and Lilac Lagoon, applied in typical Finger Paints fashion: perfectly, in 2 coats. I'm not very helpful on when these came out and which ones may still be available, because I've had them for quite a while. I believe Butterscotch Cookie is from last year's holiday collection, likely making it hard to find. The other 4 I believe came out in their Spring 2009 collection, so they may still be available here and there. If anyone else knows any more information about their availability, feel free to mention it in the comments.

Finger Paints Holiday 2009: Evergreen Dream & Snowman's Scarf

Here are the last two shades in this collection and like the others before them, they're both very pretty. I've swatched the whole collection now (the others can be found in posts I made earlier today) and I'm pleased with them all. This is a medium-sized collection (6 shades) and contains a nice variety of colors and finishes with cute and memorable names. Evergreen Dream is getting lots of attention from nail polish lovers because it's green, and it makes me happy that more polish manufacturers are recognizing the allure of this color. It's a deep jewel-toned shade of emerald green shimmer with similarly colored small glitter. The sparkle factor is high on this one, just as it is with the purple in this collection, Icy Iris. Snowman's Scarf is a fire engine red shimmer with a subtle dusting of gold shimmer sprinkled throughout. I'm drawn to polishes that appear to be infused with gold, and this is one of them. It reminds me of another polish I love, Color Club's Velvet Rope. Both of these shades are shown using 2 coats and no top coat.

Finger Paints Holiday 2009: Icy Iris & Decked With Dazzle


Above & Below: Icy Iris is a rich, deep shade of purple with tiny glitter pieces that flash both purple and red.

Below: Decked With Dazzle is a medium dusty rose shade with hints of mauve. It has more glass-flecked type glitter, giving it a foil-like finish.



Two more from this collection, both being the purple shades in this set of 6. Icy Iris is a deep royal purple with shimmer. The shimmer in this is very sparkly and flashes both red and purple. It covered nicely in 2 coats and is truly a rich shade. I am amazed by how sparkly and twinkly this one is in real life. Decked With Dazzle is more of a dressed up shade of mauve with matching shimmer and glass-flecked type glitter in silver and various shades of the base color. I could also describe the color as a red-toned violet. It photographs brighter and pinker than it actually is. This one, along with one I showed you previously, Candy Cane Shimmer, both have the glass-fleck type glitter. Decked With Dazzle comes off with a more foil-type finish, perhaps because of the silver glitter laced throughout it. I used 2 coats, and after looking at it in the sun, I probably should have gone with 3. I love both of these shades and I would say that Decked With Dazzle is quite different from anything else that I have, mainly due to the finish type. Icy Iris is similar to other polishes I have, but the sparkliness of the glitter sets it apart.

Finger Paints Holiday 2009: Candy Cane Shimmer & Sparkling Snow

Today I thought I'd start in on the Finger Paints Holiday Collection found at Sally Beauty. There are 6 polishes in this set and I think Finger Paints has done another exceptional job on their holiday polishes. There are 2 reds, 2 purples, a green and a silver and all of them are either shimmers or glitters. Candy Cane Shimmer is a red shade leaning ever so slightly toward the pink side. It's a shimmer and also filled with a glass-flecked type of glitter in gold, silver and a red-toned fuchsia. Sparkling Snow is a bright shade of silver with silver glitter. The glitter seems to flash a bit of light blue in the sunlight. The finish is almost a metallic foil look and it's very eye-catching. I didn't use a clear top coat, but I imagine that would bring the color and finish up a notch or two. Both of these applied well in 2 coats with minimal drying time.

Happy Birthday, Lucy! ...And Finger Paints Holiday Bottle Pictures

I stopped at Sally Beauty on Monday to inquire about the Finger Paints Holiday Collection and the sales girl didn't know anything about them. She said to check back on November 1. So I called them yesterday and asked for the manager to see if they might have them sooner, and sure enough, they were in the back room and she said she'd be happy to hold them for me. Now that's more like it! I picked them up today and it looks like Finger Paints has come through again with an extremely nice holiday collection. I didn't see the display, so if anyone knows the name of the collection, I'd be curious to know what it is.
Today is our dear friend Lucy's birthday. I wanted to take this opportunity to wish her a very Happy Birthday and to say thank you for your loyalty, your funny and honest comments, and most of all, your friendship. Enjoy the day, my friend!

Finger Paints Shades of Fall & Sally Hansen Rockstar Pink

Shades of Fall is a great plum tone, and if my collection wasn't in such disarray from moving it all, my guess it that I do have something similar though. It's cloudy outside right now, but I can only imagine what Sally Hansen's Rockstar Pink looks like in the sun. I was surprised at how pigmented it was with just one coat. Does anyone know how well it works on it's own, coat-wise?

Finger Paints Fall 2010: Autumn Allure

Finger Paints Fall 2010 Collection contains six shades, and even though I bought all of them, none were impressing me too much based on bottle appearances. Once again, never judge a polish by it's bottle color!


Below: Autumn Allure is a deep taupe shimmer with a pink toned base. I used 2 coats and was completely satisfied with the coverage and application. The photo below was taken under partly sunny skies, and it tends to have a slightly pinker tone in brighter lighting.

Below: This photo, taken when the sun hid behind some clouds, shows the taupe color a little more, and the pink color a little less.
Below: The macro shot shows the shimmer detail, and I certainly wouldn't call it silver, but maybe a silvery-taupe color. It's actually rather subtle, but adds just enough sparkle to dress this one up.Below: A side-by-side with China Glaze Ingrid and Essie Mink Muffs gives you an idea of how Autumn Allure compares.
Once again, I was wrong about not loving any of these. The first one I picked to swatch is a winner in my book, because I love taupes and Autumn Allure changes up a standard taupe look with some subtle shimmer and a pinker base. This is sort of a taupe with a twist--not a true taupe, but much closer to taupe than pink. Finger Paints are on sale at Sally Beauty through tomorrow, buy 2-get 1 free. I had to ask if they had them in stock because they weren't displayed, but they were happy to bring them out.

Finger Paints Fall 2010

I needed to renew my Sally Club card today, so I asked them if the new Finger Paints for Fall were in yet. She was kind enough to go in the back and bring me a set, and while they have a nice array of colors for Fall, nothing really jumps out as being exceptional.

Above & Below: The top photo shows the colors more true to life (indoors with flash) with the exception of Autumn Allure, while the bottom photo was taken in full sunlight. Autumn Allure looks more true to life in the outdoors photo. There's one creme in this collection (Shades of Fall, a plum color) and the rest are shimmers.
Below: I made the mistake of looking around while I was waiting for her to bring the Finger Paints out, and naturally I saw some other things that interested me! The Savvy polishes are from a collection called Shimmer Time (now I have Hammer Time stuck in my head) and they have beautiful iridescent shimmer.
Below: I couldn't capture how pretty the shimmer is, and I'm wondering if they might work better over a darker color. L-R: Purple Potion, Fairy Twinkle, Glass Slipper. I love the names, so hopefully I'll love the polishes.
Below: Two of my favorite treatment products, Blue Cross Cuticle Remover (gigantic bottle for only $4.99) and Mango Mend in the perfect size tube ($3.79). The Mango Mend is pricier in this packaging, but I like to keep one on my desk for a quick and easy application in between swatching and before I go to bed. I saw a green polish from Nina Ultra Pro that didn't look quite like other greens I had, so into the basket it went. This one is called Salsa.
Without swatching the Finger Paints yet, they're pretty and Fall-like--nothing earth-shattering though. That could change once I put them on my nail...who knows. The names are lacking a little in originality, as I notice they use the word Autumn in three of them. The one most appealing to me right now is Autumn Allure, the taupe shimmer. It reminds me of Ingrid from the China Glaze Vintage Vixen collection. Finger Paints are on sale this month buy 2 get one free, and they're priced at $4.49 with a Sally Club card.

Some New Greens From Finger Paints

This post concludes a look at the newest Finger Paints I picked up last week, although there are quite a few more that I would like to have gotten!

Above & Below: Sketch N Etch is a lovely shade of lighter emerald green with micro shimmer. This applied evenly in 2 coats and is shown with a flash above, and no flash under an Ott lamp below.
Below: Tough Art To Follow is a dark olive green creme with a hint of 'dustiness' to it. I don't believe I have anything quite like this in my collection. I used 2 coats and it applied perfectly. The photo directly below is shown with a flash, and the photo below this is under an Ott lamp.

Below: Because I have a bad habit of layering everything (who, me?), here it is with Chanel Illusion D'Or.
I'm pretty impressed with the new Finger Paints I picked up, and if you scroll down over the last couple of days, you can see the other shades. I wish my Sally Beauty had them categorized as to which ones were new, rather than all mixed into the core display, but maybe it's better for my wallet that way! I didn't have my spread sheet with me to compare what I already had, and if they'd been separated, I probably would have bought a lot more of them. In other brand news, I noticed a new Summer collection on Essie's web site which says it'll be available June 1st. Here's a link if you'd like to check it out.

More New Finger Paints: Hue Rang? and Easel-Y Entertained

Here are two more shades from the new Finger Paint offerings. I found there to be a huge difference in the formula, but I realize they have completely different finishes.

Above: Hue Rang? is a beautiful mix of cornflower, periwinkle and lavender with a micro shimmer finish. This is one coat and I would definitely recommend this shade if you like this type of color and finish.
Below: Easel-Y Entertained was a little disappointing for me, but not so much that I dislike it. I used 3 coats and due to the finish type and formula, I had some drag with the brush and it took longer than I would have preferred for it to dry.
Hue Rang? is perfection in a bottle. I love the shade and the formula was perfect. Not to mention, I only needed one coat! Easel-Y Entertained has a base that is not strongly pigmented with the color, and it has a jelly-type texture--much like Color Club's Japanese glitters. I tried to use thin coats, but I don't think I got them as thin as I should have. I assumed the first coat was dry enough to go ahead with the second coat, and it wasn't. This is such a pretty shade, reminding me of denim, and the glitter is fine and sparkly. It appears as both a blue and a silver glitter. Trying it over a similar base color and using just one coat, would likely alleviate the little issues I have with this one.

Finger Paints New Shade: Hue Left A Message?

Hue Left A Message? is another new shade recently released by Finger Paints and available at Sally Beauty, both online and in the stores.

Above & Below: This shade is a lighter pinkish mauve toned glitter that was quite opaque in one coat, although I used 2 in these photos. It's a jelly-like texture, and reminds me very much of the China Glaze glitters, although the coverage is better.
Below: This photo shows the density of the glitter, and I do not look forward to removing this one!

This is the second shade I've swatched from the six bottles I picked up of the new Finger Paint offerings, and so far, so good! This one tends to dry a bit slower, and I should have waited longer before applying the second coat. It was a little goopy, for lack of a better term, but I just need to wait an extra couple of minutes the next time. The coverage on this one was fantastic, as I was expecting it to be a litter more sheer. I'm going to lay off of swatching the rest of the day though, because I sliced the pad of my ring finger last night while I was chopping some peppers, and the acetone makes it rather painful, to say the least!
