Color Club Japanese Exclusive Glitter: Sparkling Cassis

Above: Sparkling Cassis shown with 3 coats. This is a medium Carnation pink tone.
Below: I applied 1 coat of Nicole's Deeply In Love over Sparkling Cassis, and although I was unable to capture the look well, it gives this red creme a glass-flecked appearance.

Here's another one of the new Color Club Japanese Exclusive Glitters available at Victoria Nail Supply, Sparkling Cassis. This is the last of the pink/peach toned ones (there are 4 of these and the other 3 were posted yesterday). I used 3 coats on this shade, and it is more pigmented than Twinkle Peach and Calendula for Joy. I would rank this shade and I Love You as by far the most pigmented of these 4. It's a pink-toned color with a hint of peach, and the customary micro-fine multi-colored glitter that all of these seem to have. At the risk of repeating myself, I think that the less pigmented ones work better as base or top coats, although both Sparkling Cassis and I Love You look fine on their own as well.
Application Tip: When using jelly-like textured glitters, I use Orly Nail Armor as a base coat. The silk fibers in this base coat give the polish something to adhere to, so the glitter is more evenly distributed.

New Color Club Exclusive Japanese Glitters

Below: I Love You, shown in 2 coats. This is much more pigmented than Twinkle Peach, shown below. This is technically called Rose, I Love You, but the label reads I Love You. It applies true to the bottle color, which is a bright rose pink with tiny multi-colored glitter.

Below: Twinkle Peach, shown using 3 coats. Clearly, 5-6 coats would be needed to bring the color up to the bottle shade. This is a very pale shade of peach with the same multi-colored glitter. However, the glitter is not as bold in color, due to a lower contrast against the lighter base shade.
Below: One coat of Kleancolor's Neon Sapphire over Twinkle Peach. I like to use these glitters as bottom coats or top coats with other polish shades.
Today I received the newest 8 Color Club Exclusive Japanese Glitters that Victoria Nail Supply recently added to their stock. I swatched 2 of the shades so far, and will be working on the other 6 today and tomorrow. I used three coats on Twinkle Peach, and as you can see, it needs several more than that! I Love You applied better, as I used 2 coats. I see in the photos that perhaps 3 would have looked nicer. I Love You is much more pigmented than Twinkle Peach. For those of you who have some of the glitters from Color Club, you know that the formula is somewhat jelly-like. It takes a little trial and error to apply them evenly and at the right thickness. What I like the most about these glitters is that they work well as a base color with another coat of polish over them as shown above with the blue Kleancolor (Neon Sapphire), and they work even better as a top coat over a darker polish shade. I prefer using them in this fashion, rather than by themselves. I'll do a few swatches using them under and over other polishes, coming up.

CQ Polishes: Silver Taupe & Cosmic Plum

Above & Below: CQ's Silver Taupe is a fantastic taupe with a little bling. I used 2 coats, but it would have looked much better with 3. These photos are taken in natural light (above) and with a flash below.
Below: CQ's Cosmic Plum is a very slight duo chrome. It's got a lot going on, because in addition to the slight duo chrome, it's also a shimmer, yet it has a somewhat foil-type finish. I do like how the shimmer gives it a plush velvet look.
Yes, I'm still working away trying to open up some space on my untried's shelf, and this evening I have 2 CQ brand polishes to show you. CQ is manufactured by Scherer, Inc., also the makers of Petites and Chameleon brands, often found in drugstore chains. This is the first time I've tried this brand and the results are somewhat mixed. I used 2 coats on Silver Taupe and I think I should've used 3. I used 3 coats of Cosmic Plum, which seemed to give me the right amount of coverage. These are 0.4 fl. oz., so a little smaller than average, and they were priced at $2.59 each. I consider them to be fairly reasonably priced, the application and formula were fine (other than the 3 coats!), and the dried quickly. Now for the shades...

Silver Taupe is just gorgeous to me. A medium taupe shade with silver sparkles. The sparkly glitter is subtle, but it is also slightly holographic under more intense lighting. What's not to like? Again, other than the 3 coats! It was similar to China Glaze Stellar, which was one of my favorites from the glitters they released a few months back. Here is my post on Stellar if you'd like to have a look. Cosmic Plum was just alright to me, but nothing special. It looked somewhat like a duo chrome in the bottle, and once applied, it actually is a duo chrome. But it's a very weak duo chrome. It's a rose gold color that flashes to a more gold color in different lighting. It also has hints of copper in darker lighting. The metallic/foil finish is not to my liking either. I don't hate it, but I'm not nearly as attracted to this one as I am to Silver Taupe. I think I was expecting a little more magic from Cosmic Plum, based on how it looked in the bottle.

Snow=Snowman Polish!

Above & Below: The bright pink neon shimmer Snowman polish dries to a satin finish, so I used a top coat. A Nailene snowman decal seemed appropriate! The shimmer looks silver and pink in the bottle, but once applied, it's shows as a beautiful baby blue and violet iridescent look.
It's been snowing all day, so I think a Snowman polish from Blue Cross Beauty is in order. I posted last month about how I'd picked some of these up at Rite-Aid, mainly for the 'cute' factor. This bright pink shimmer was not one of them, however. When I stopped in again last week, I walked past the display and they were all gone. Except this one. He looked so sad and lonely, so he came home with me! These are not the greatest polishes...the brushes are sometimes wonky, some of them need 3-4 coats (as in this case), and I don't hear any ballz when I shake the bottle. But for $1.99, you get cute, festive, and fun. In my opinion, for the entertainment factor alone, they're worth it!

8 New VNS Color Club Japanese Glitter Nail Wheel Swatches

Last week I showed you bottle pictures of the 8 new Color Club Japanese Exclusive Glitters that Yen from Victoria Nail Supply sent me, and I received a polish wheel with the swatches from her today. I'm guessing they should have these in stock by the end of the month. Naturally, Fresh Mint was the one I was most looking forward to, but now that I have the swatches in front of me, there's a 3-way tie for my affections between Fresh Mint, Blue Hawaii and Rose, I Love You! Let me explain why...Fresh Mint is green, so that's my reason for liking it, pure and simple. Blue Hawaii is blue, so can I use the same reason I used for Fresh Mint? Rose, I Love You is a shade or two below a fuchsia, but it looks holographic because of the fine glitter and the color combination between the base color and the glitter. Bishop's Weed is another favorite of mine because it reminds me of new fallen snow with the sunlight reflecting off of it. I like the range of colors in this set, as there's much more variety than in the original 4 that they carry (2 pinks, a peachy pink and my favorite, Too Violet). These are all packed with micro fine holographic glitter, giving them a flash of different colors, depending on the base shade. At different angles, they take on an almost foil finish, because the glitter is so dense. What do you think? Any favorites among these for you?

China Glaze Doll House & Pure Ice Cheatin=Glitter Overload

What was I thinking? I wanted to check out my China Glaze Doll House from the untried's shelf and WoW. China Glaze is probably my favorite brand of polish and this is the first time I've been somewhat disappointed in one of their polishes. This is not really to my liking, but maybe one of you can enlighten me as to how you wear it and like it! I lost track of how many coats I finally ended up with to get even coverage, but maybe it works better as a topcoat over a darker shade. The glitter is massive, both in size and density within the polish, and the formula is clear and a little jelly/gummy-like. I had to keep wiping the ends of my nails with my other hand to get the overhang cleaned up, so now my other fingers are covered with glitter. I do like how the glitter appears as a muted carnation pink and then turns both silver and red with any movement of my hand, but that's about all that I liked. I thought I'd have nothing to lose by putting a coat of Pure Ice Cheatin (that omission of the apostrophe really bothers me, but that's how it's labeled!) over Doll House...nothing to lose but the next hour trying to remove it all! Oh well, now I know what Doll House looks like.

Del Sol Color-Changing Polishes: Girls Night Out, Pretty in Pink & First Kiss

Above & Below: My personal favorite, Girls Night Out. Here it is shown indoors and you can see just a hint of gold shimmer in the picture below, although it appears more as a creme finish.
Below: Now you can see why it's my favorite, as I have a weakness for gold shimmer, especially in purples. This is how it looks after about 30 seconds in the sunlight.



Below: Pretty in Pink has a milky white iridescent finish in the shade. It's very delicate looking and reminds me of the inside of a sea shell with it's pearl-like sheen.

I did a couple of posts yesterday about the Del Sol color-changing polishes I was recently sent to review, and today I have the last 3 shades. I've really enjoyed sampling these polishes for a couple of reasons...they're nice polishes as far as the quality and application go, they come in a fairly wide range of colors and finishes, and they are very entertaining with their color-changing ability. My personal favorite of the 6 I received is definitely Girls Night Out. It's a lovely shade of Carnation pink that although a shimmer, appears more as a creme before being exposed to sunlight. Once in the sun, it turns into a rich plum-purple shade laced with gold shimmer. Those of you who know me, know that I love polishes with gold shimmer, so it's no surprise that this is my favorite. Pretty in Pink is an iridescent white shimmer indoors with the slightest hint of pink. The iridescent finish caught my eye right away, even though white shimmers are not my favorite look. It flashes pink, blue and lilac and once the color changes to a bright shade of Rose pink, almost a fuchsia tone, you can still catch a hint of iridescence (mainly light blue) on the nail. First Kiss is a very lady-like light pink shade that's not quite a frost, not quite a shimmer. Outdoors, it takes on a more foil-like finish, much like Electrick that I showed you yesterday. All of these covered nicely in 2 to 3 coats and dried quickly. After using these, it made me wonder what other things Del Sol could make besides the multitude of products they already carry with color-changing abilities...how about eye shadow, mascara, highlights for hair, body lotion (not that would be interesting!)...the possibilities are endless. Del Sol Color-Changing Polishes: Electrick, Ruby Slipper & Peek-A-Boo

Above & Below: Electrick, a blue to green foil finish shade shown in it's "normal state" above, and below outside in partial sun. The brush strokes were minimal, which is unusual for a foil finish, but definitely a good thing. I think this would be an interesting one to use as a Konad stamping color, and the color-change effect would be an added bonus.

Below: Ruby Slipper in it's "normal state" is a fairly sheer silver glitter shade. I also used a coat as a top coat over Misa's Can't Nobody Take Me Down to see how that would work.

I am having too much fun with these polishes! I have to move quickly because they change color very fast once outside in the sun, so I tried to take several pictures of each one ranging from indoors to outdoors. I used 2 or 3 coats on all of these, depending on how well they covered after each coat, but the drying time is quick. I also put a clear top coat on a couple of nails to see if that would weaken the color-changing ability, and it did not seem to alter it at all. The mission statement for Del Sol is "Create Fun, Joy, Smiles and Memories for Everyone under the Sun!", and I am definitely having some fun under the sun with these polishes. The quality of the formula is nicer than I expected, in that it applies smoothly, dries quickly, and the brush is cut well. I don't have any complaints about these, other than the fact that Peek-A-Boo is not really a shade I am crazy about, but that's just a personal preference.
