Sephora on the Home Shopping Network!

Sephora graced the Home Shopping Network (HSN) today – “Sephora Beauty Premiere Live from 5th Avenue” – hosted by our very own beauty editor, Julie Redfern! (All smiles, stage right.) The first show kicked off this morning at 1 a.m. – offering Sephora's top picks for holiday gifts and beauty tips to navigate the party season – and was a beauty-full success. The proof, of course, being that all the products sold out in two shows, forcing us to cancel today's 4 and 9 p.m. showings. But don't worry: we'll return to HSN in February, with five episodes on the Future of Beauty. Here's a peek at what showcased today: Dior's DiorShow Mascara, Fusion Beauty's Perfect Pout set, Make Up For Ever Essential Eyes, Urban Decay's Urban Ammo and Urban Arsenal palettes, Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo, CARGO's 10th Anniversary Signature Collection, T3 travel set, TheBalm Plump Your Pucker gloss sets, Sephora's Creamy Coconut Nectar Duo, Sephora Vanity Brush Set, and Sephora's Whipped Body Delights in Marshmallow Fluff, Ginger Lime, White Peach and Pink Grapefruit.

Hot Silver

Reporting live from Sephora's Spring 2007 catalog shoot: Silver nails are officially spring's slickest trend (we totally called this, btw). Celebrity manicurist Myrdith Mccormack painted our model's tips with a chrome-inspired coat of silver polish (the finish is actually matte, but the silver flecks make it appear shiny), topped off with a stripe of silver sparkles. "It’s edgy—great for evenings, the holidays, or if you’re fashion forward, says Mccormack. "If you’ve got a job where you can’t let loose, you can still wear the trend by applying a silvery white, pearly shade." She recommends wearing silver polish on a shorter nail, or one that's oval shaped. To really make the color pop, first paint the nails with a coat of light beige or white polish. The solid base will make the silver more intense. The look we’re loving is a chrome finish—the actual finish is matte, but the silver flakes in the formula make it look supershiny. Here, Mccormack layered a clear polish infused with chunky sparkles on top of the silver base for a super sparkly finish.

Concealer Confessions: An Amazing Story

When it comes to complexion products, everyone is adamant about their favorite product. Some prefer foundation, others, pressed powder. Me, I'm a concealer girl. And my life totally changed when I first tried Amazing Concealer. The super-concentrated formula perfectly blends into your skin to cover just about every red spot, purple circle, or blue vein on your face—and since using it, I haven't had a (visible) zit. On Wednesday night, Amazing Cosmetics teamed up with celebrity makeup artist Joanne Gair for en event at Sephora 5th Avenue. Gair, a Hollywood makeup artist who specializes in intricate body painting, signed copies of her new book, Body Painting - Masterpieces by Joanne Gair, while the gals behind Amazing, founders Lisa Thurman and Sue Katz (pictured here with Gair) and spokesperson Sandy Incardona schmoozed with Sephora clients. "It's like 6 degrees of Jo with us," said Incardona. "Jo is friends with so many of Hollywood's top makeup artists, and she gave them our concealer. Now, they call us on their own." Incardona admitted that she's gotten apologetic calls at 7:30 at night requesting more. Gair packaged her two fave products - Amazing Concealer and Powder Set, in a limited edition kit called Jo's Picks. "My friends in the biz call me and say 'you've changed my professional life,'" she says. "Amazing Cosmetics makes my job so much easier." Mine too!

Ocean State Beauty: Sephora Hits Rhode Island

The "biggest little state in the union" is about to get more beauty-full. Sephora is opening at the Providence Place Mall in Providence, RI, on Wednesday, December 6th (to you Rhode Islanders - I tried to schedule a celebretory Water Fire, but they wouldn't bite). And why am I so excited about this? Because I'm a Rhode Islander, born and bred, and I'm going home for the opening. Also key that my parents will no longer wonder what the heck I'm doing with my life. They'll be able to see (and shop) for themselves!

Benefit's Bag of Beauty Tricks

Our friends (and San Francisco neighbors) at Benefit Cosmetics recently peeked inside their favorite makeup artists’ makeup bags—and found a lot of fun, alternative uses for their top-selling products. I had to share these new “ah-ha!” ideas:

Carmindy, reality TV makeup artist:
“For fuller looking lips, dab a bit of Eyebright pencil on the cupid’s bow of the upper lip and on the center under the lower lip… be sure to blend!”

Nicole Bryl, entertainment tv makeup artist:
“I can’t live without my Color Plump pencil in Yoo Hoo… I use it as a shimmery glow on cheeks and eyes—the creamy formula doesn’t dry out your face, or crease on the eyelids.”

Joe J. Simon, celebrity makeup artist:
"A trick I use to make a wide or crooked nose look slimmer and straighter is to draw a subtle line down the bridge of the nose with High Beam liquid highlighter (remember to tap it in so you don't see the line!). It really works!"

Jennifer Turchi, prime time makeup artist:
“I use Georgia powder on everyone. It’s also a great tool to combat "raccoon" eyes. After using a light concealer to cover dark circles, sweep Georgia under the eyes to bring the color back to natural! It’s also perfect on the eyelids to blend strong color eye shadows.”

Sara Glick, top magazine makeup artist:
“Boi-ing concealer gives smooth texture and great coverage that doesn’t cake or crease. For more sheer coverage, mix it with any moisturizer, and for an evening look try mixing Boi-ing with a highlighter.”

Margot Boccia, Hollywood makeup artist:
“For a great foundation, mix You Rebel tinted moisturizer with a liquid highlighter. Try using it on just the cheekbones or on the lids as a shadow.”

Arianne Damboise, Benefit national makeup artist:
“Use Glamazon as a contour to create bone structure. Brush the sheer bronze tint under cheek bones to give lift, down your nose and even along your jaw line to create a slimming effect.”

Sneak Peak: Stilla Perfectly Kitten Set

Stila makeup artist Sarah Lucero and national account director Teresa Gabriel just showed us Stila's fabulous lineup for Holiday 2006. Even though it seems too early to even THINK about the holidays, we can't help but give a peek at the Stila Perfectly Kitten Set, a just-for-holiday, Only-At-Sephora gift set that includes Stila's greatest hits: the award winning "Kitten" eyeshadow with an "It" gloss also in "Kitten". Packaged in Stila's signature chocolate brown with dark pink lining clutch, the "Perfectly Kitten Set" also includes a full sized bottle of the All-Over-Shimmer Luminizer that Sarah recommended using in your body moisturizer for a little holiday sparkle. This is definitely one gift you'll want to give -- and get.

Inside Info: Borba + Tarte Vitamin-Infused Lip Gloss!

On a recent trip to San Francisco, Borba Nutraceuticals founder Scott Vincent Borba, who's famous for his vitamin-infused drinks and gummy bears, stopped into Sephora's Powell Street store to do some shopping our SF beauty writer, Joannie Sevilla. After stopping to help a starry-eyed Borba fan, Scott Vincent indulged us in some breaking news: By Spring of next year, Borba will be partnering with Tarte Cosmetics to launch a vitamin-infused lip gloss called "Inside Out" that combines fabulous lip shine with good-for-you Borba Nutraceuticals. Considering the fact that gloss-addicts allegedly ingest about 2 to 4 pounds of lipgloss in their lifetime, you might as well ingest age-defying nutrients and vitamins while you're at it!

NewsFlash: Sephora inside JCPenney

Sephora is opening stores within JC Penney's, and the first locations opened on Friday, in Fort Worth, Miami, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Queens and on jcpenney.com. The experience is totally Sephora: From the music to the shopping bags to the educated beauty consultants, it's just like you're in a Sephora store, but more convenient to shoppers who don't have a Sephora near them: "I'm a Sephora shopper. I like it and now I won't have to go to the mall as often," said Suzanne Riley, a young mother shopping in the new Penney store in Fort Worth, Texas, with her toddler on Sunday. "It's so much more convenient for me. It's one-stop shopping." And most importantly, it'll sell the same cult cosmetic brands, including Bare Escentuals, Bliss, Stila and Smashbox and designer label fragrances of Dior, Escada and Salvatore Ferragamo. Other shops open Friday inside Penney stores in Aventura Mall near Miami, Queens Center in New York, Glendale Galleria near Los Angeles and Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento, Calif. All but Queens Center have free-standing Sephora stores already in the mall.

Tried To Make Me Go To Razors, I Said no!no!

In 4th grade, I tried to shave my legs before my mom would allow it, and didn’t know to use water. In college, I "bravely" bought wax from an infomercial, and hobbled to class with scaly skinned-chicken legs. So when asked to test no!no!—Sephora’s new hair removal system that "painlessly" de-hairs with Thermicon™ heat wave technology—I balked, naturally. But, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The little heated device—which is smaller than a cell phone and doesn't need water—left me with silky smooth legs and, truly, no pain. Just turn it on, slide it against the direction of your leg hair, and bask in your immediate hairlessness. It nixes hair in a single use, but with continued use, will reduce hair regrowth up to 64%, and leave you with less stubble. Still, hairless perks aside, safety first: Read the directions to make sure you're doing it properly—a green light flickers when you are—and don't pioneer to other skin areas. It's meant for legs and arms only—no matter how tiny that Labor Day bikini might be. —Jessica Anderson, Sephora

No One Does Hair Quite Like the Brazilians!

What is in the water down there, huh? If you want hair gone... the Brazilians have a method. If you want hair straight, guess what? The Brazilians have a new method. Brazilian straightening is fast replacing the Japanese method because it returns hair to it's natural curly splendor within three months and comes with a low maintenance promise. Celeb stylist, Dayler Chagas, of Salon and Day Spa OC61, told the New York Post, Brazilian straightening is the best way to go from curly locks to straight strands without long term side effects (the mind wanders straight to fried, frizz hair). This four hour process even works on processed and damaged hair because it seals the cuticle, leaving nothing but shine. Now, I've always been partial to hair Au-natural, but this seems like something worth investigating... -Gabrielle Katz

'Take Him to the Maitresse'

Not everyone has the kahunas to strap into a little number by Agent Provocateur, but everyone can spritz on Maitresse, the new scent from the scantly clad company, and evoke that oh-la-licious feeling. Don't be surprised if you get naughtier than your nature; it's namesake, the 1976 French film, Maîtresse, was banned from the UK for being "miles in excess" to anything previously released. Notes include white suede, white lotus, rose absolute and Iso E Super, a patented accord that creates a velvety note. Be authoritative and irresistible, without the, uuh, accessories? - Gabrielle Katz, Sephora

Say no! no! to Shaving!

First there was the computer. Then came the cell phone. Now technology proudly presents to you, the no! no! Man may have created the heel, but he is paying us back big time with this painless hair removal system. Using Thermicon technology, the no! no! sends a gentle wave of heat that rids unwanted hair sans nicks, razors, irritation and tears. And, as if you weren't reaching for your wallets already, clinical studies show that no! no! reduces hair regrowth by up to 64%, comparable to laser and electrolysis treatments. Sign up here and be in the know about no! no! -Gabrielle Katz, Sephora

Posen Announces New Fragrance Line!

Holy Haute Couture! Zac Posen has secured his ticket to the "boys club," joining Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani and Micheal Kors when he announced his new fragrance line Friday. WWD reported Posen has signed a licensing deal with Selective Beauty to develop, not just a scent, but "a house of classics." The 'classics' are set to launch in early June and it's safe to say that fashionistas everywhere have their PDA's on high alert for the launch party! —Gabrielle Katz, Sephora

Carol's Daughter is Growing Up

Have you seen Carol's Daughter lately? Oy VEY! It seems like just two years ago she was a hand lotion and now! They grow up so fast ... When Lisa Price toyed around with hand lotion in her Brooklyn kitchen 7 years ago, I doubt she could have predicted her products would become cult classics, spearheaded by support from celeb buddies. On the heels of its women-of-color-friendly haircare and skincare lines, Carol's Daughter is branching out into the wonderful world of color. WWD Friday announced Carol's new line of "Candy Paint" lip gloss, retailing at $13.50 each. The company promises to donate a portion of the profits to the Lupus Foundation (industry insiders expect the product to make $4 million its first year). Our Captain, Commander and Chairman David Suliteanu has already jumped aboard S.S. Carol. He told WWD Carol's Daughter is the "perfect storm; great product, a lot of buzz, and a strong passionate team." Be sure to keep plugged into Sephora for your brand weather report.—Gabrielle Katz, Sephora
