Lippmann Ruby Red Slippers

I think this may just be my manicure for Christmas Eve! Ruby Red Slippers is nothing short of stunning. It has a blackened base that upon the first coat, is a watery charcoal color with sparse coverage. The second coat builds the base and the glitter to near perfection, although I think I may opt for 3 thin coats when I do this again tomorrow. What you end up with is an abundance of sparkling rubies awash in a sea of black glossiness. Top it off with a matte top coat and you get another look altogether. Simply put, I love this one.

Lippmann Collection Don't Tell Mama

Above & Below: Lippmann's Don't Tell Mama, outdoors under cloudy skies. This covered very nicely in 2 coats and I love the shade.

Below: The start of my nail storage revamping project. I'm using this CD storage rack for my untried's and I still have more to add to it. The bottom shelf holds some of my treatments and implements.
Don't Tell Mama is one of Lippmann's new Fall colors and this shade is one of my favorite color groups. It's a blackened emerald green with a hint of teal that dries to a high shine glossy finish in 2 coats. I love the bottle design of these...they're square and heavy, with a little beveled base. The only thing I didn't care for with regard to the bottle design is that I think the handle itself could be a little longer. I have fairly small hands and I felt like I didn't have the best control over it, due to it's short handle. I have no complaints about the polish, as it applied very nicely with a good consistency and dried quickly. The first coat was typical of most polishes, a little streaky, but the second coat concealed everything perfectly. Indoors the color appears to be dark green, but under brighter lighting and outdoors, you can see more of the blue/green tones. Their website describes the color aptly, by saying "mood ring blue/green shimmer". I only have one other Lippmann polish and it is among my untried's, so I'm very pleased with my first experience from this line.


Speaking on untried's, I am trying very hard to get my polishes in some kind of organized order. I picked up a CD stand thinking I could use something like that to store/display them on, but after starting to sort through things earlier this week, I realized that I was only fooling myself thinking this would accommodate everything. So I decided to use that stand for my untried's, and I am filling it up rather quickly. I would venture to say that it now holds about 1/3 of the untried's. Yikes! I'm going to keep working on this task and hopefully have it completed over the next week or two. Are you happy with your storage system for your polishes? I'd be interested in hearing how you categorize and store/display yours.

Lippmann Just Walk Away Renee

I've no love or hatred for Renee Zellweger who was the inspiration for this shade, although I may be guilty of turning up the volume when I hear the oldie, Walk Away Renee on the radio. I do love Deborah Lippmann's Just Walk Away nail color though. A rich, sophisticated berry black cherry creme, this high gloss jelly-like finish is perfect for Fall.

I'm still working on the Melmer assembly line and moving my polishes to their new home, although I haven't quite determined how I want to store my untried polishes. I chose Just Walk Away Renee from the untried shelf in an effort to decrease the amount that seems to be ever-growing--how does that happen?!! I may or may not have bought this polish for the name, but it's a lovely shade, so that made my purchase worthwhile. Although I may not understand or be able to work some of Lippmann's polishes the way they're intended, the vast majority of them in my collection have never failed to impress me. I love the bottle design, the application and formula is always near perfect (I don't count my personal experience with Funky Chunky in this description!), and she continues to come out with shades and finishes that are unique and beautiful. She also has a number of shades that I consider classic, such as this one.

Lippmann Bad Romance

Bad Romance from Deborah Lippmann is another beauty from her upcoming Fall collection, and I'm having a hard time deciding if I like this one better than Across the Universe. I personally love both of them, but this one may have a slight edge over AtU simply because I love the black base more than the deep blue base of AtU. But then again, the blue and green glitter in AtU is a lovely combination!


Above & Below: These photos were both taken outdoors and I used 2 coats, which gave me good coverage. Like AtU and much like Ruby Red Slippers, the first coat is thin and streaky, but a second coat brings the look up perfectly.
Below: Bad Romance has violet, almost fuchsia colored glitter in both a large and small hexagon shape. While this has more than enough glitter to please even the most demanding glitter lover, it seems to have somewhat less than AtU.
Below: This photo was taken with the aid of an Ott lamp. I love the contrast of the rich, glossy black with the brighter purple glitter. I didn't experience any glitter placement problems with this one or AtU, and was really pleased about that. As far as the removal of both of these, they removed much better than I would expect a glitter to. I definitely had some stray glitter pieces on my fingers when I was done, but I had no issues with the removal.
Deborah Lippmann states that "Bad Romance was inspired by last winter's Ruby Red Slippers." She says that she was giving a manicure to Lady Gaga and was inspired by her as well, which resulted in Bad Romance, "a Gaga-blackened fuchsia. The chunky sequin shade captures the high-fashion feel of Gaga's signature style and the bold statement of the namesake song." I always find her inspirations interesting to read about, but I'm thinking she needs to be inspired to somehow create something along this line using emerald glitter. How gorgeous would that be? Maybe she'll be giving Stevie Nicks a manicure soon and Emerald Eyes will be playing in the background--there you go Deborah, you're inspired! Now get busy creating!

Lippmann Across the Universe

If you love mermaid-like glittery polish, you're going to really love Lippmann's Across the Universe. I plead guilty to taking way too many pictures of this one, but I couldn't help myself! All of these photos were taken outdoors in varying degrees of sunlight with no flash.
Above & Below: This is a deep navy blue polish with what the press release refers to as a blazing blue and metallic glam glitter blend in a sheerest navy base.
Below: This macro shot of the glitter shows their color and shapes. As you can see, they didn't skimp on the glitter!
Below: The first coat was thin and I had some balding, so I touched up the bald spots, then proceeded with the second coat. I was satisfied with 2 coats, and happy that the glitter disperses itself very evenly across the nail.
Below: In more shaded light, the green glitter really pops.



Across the Universe has instantly jumped into my top ten favorite polishes. The deep base color contrasted with the blue and green glitter is absolutely stunning. Deborah Lippmann says that her inspiration for this shade came from a friend of hers who asked her to "capture all of space and time in a bottle", so after viewing a show at the Hayden Planetarium, her inspiration took over to create this celestial explosion in a bottle.

The application on this one gave me no problems, and I wasn't concerned with the thinness of the first coat, because Ruby Red Slippers applies much the same way. It builds up amazingly well with a second coat, after touching up any overly thin areas. The finish when dry is quite smooth, and the glitter itself reminds me of a flaky-type glitter. The larger pieces especially, are so plentiful, that some of them overlap, creating a near-flaky look as opposed to just a hexagon shaped glitter. What do you think about this one? While this is part of Lippmann's Fall offering, I think it's far too pretty to relegate it to only those seasons, and I'll definitely be wearing it now!

Lippmann's: Funky Chunky, Marquee Moon, Brown Eyed Girl

In anticipation of Lippmann's stunning shades coming out soon, the All That Jazz trio and Across the Universe, I thought I'd show you some other Lippmann shades I have. We'll start with the most challenging one for me anyway, Funky Chunky.

Above & Below: Well, this is interesting, isn't it? Funky Chunky is a near black creme with small hexagon shaped black sequin glitter. The first coat was very thin, but it allowed me to see the glitter much better than a second coat does, which is shown in these photos. As you can see in the macro shot below, the sequin glitter is quite interesting, but unfortunately, what you see on the nail looks more like black chunks with indiscernible shape or color.
Below: Marquee Moon, a nice shade of medium silver shimmer, gave me more hope, but also a sense of glitter placement trepidation. Maybe I need to get the idea out of my head that polishes with larger glitter pieces need to be uniformly placed. I was satisfied with the coverage of polish after 2 coats, but I went with 3 hoping to coax some of that glitter out of the bottle and onto my nail. I don't think I was very successful!

Below: The photos above were taken outdoors in the sunlight, and give a fairly true picture of what this polish looks like. I was pleasantly surprised by the look of the glitter when I got into less sunlight.

Below: Ahhh, my fear of glitter placement has subsided! Brown Eyed Girl doesn't have any glitter, but it is laced with beautiful gold shimmer. This is a deep russet brown shade that covered beautifully in 2 coats. I don't need a lot of motivation to buy a polish based on it's name--I have brown eyes, and I like Van Morrison. Yes, it's just that simple sometimes! The first photo below was taken in the sun, while the next photo was taken indoors with a flash.
