The jury's been out for years now on the safety of many ingredients in beauty. Now, a few nail polish companies are heeding the concerns of environmental groups and removing the chemical dibutyl phthalate from their formulas. As reported by The New York Times in Nail Polish Makers Yield on Disputed Chemical nail polish makers Orly, OPI and Sally Hansen plan to remove the chemical from their formulas. Studies have linked the disputed ingredient to testicular problems in rats and humans, and it's banned in cosmetics in Europe. Though beauty companies use it in concentrations that's probably too small to cause harm, the three companies are changing thier formulas in response to increased consumer awareness. Good job!
