Rimmel Hot Cocoa Layered With Milani High Fashion

I picked up Milani's High Fashion today from the same display that holds Dress Maker (Haute Value LE collection), and wanted to take a quick look at how it worked as a layering polish. My NOTD is Rimmel's Hot Cocoa, a dusty carnation shade with a very slight pink-toned mauve color to it. This shade is a little too light to get the best look from Milani's High Fashion, but I must say, it is reminiscent of the properties found in Sally Hansen's Hidden Treasure.

Below: I used one coat of Milani's High Fashion and it has very small silver, pink and green holographic glitter in a milky base.
Below: In the shade, the glitter takes on a coppery pink hue, similar to Sally Hansen's Hidden Treasure on a much smaller scale.
I definitely want to try this over a darker color and use a second coat, but if you like the copper pink glitter in Hidden Treasure, you might want to pick up Milani High Fashion. Obviously, the glitter is much finer that HT, but that's nice for a more subtle look.

Rimmel Steel Grey, Rimmel Camouflage & The Brush Comparison

Unintentionally, I seem to have turned my weekend blog posts into "All Rimmel-All The Time"! That's going to end after this post, because I was just outside taking some pictures of Chanel Illusion D'Or and I think I could've stayed out there playing with that one for hours! But for now, here's a look at another Rimmel from their Lasting Finish Pro Line, Steel Grey.
Above: As I've mentioned in my 2 previous posts, this newest line from Rimmel is fantastic. I'm getting a nice opaque look with 2 coats and the application is quick and easy. Steel Grey is similar to many taupes I have, but what's one more taupe, right?
Above: An older, yet much loved Rimmel, Camouflage. This medium kelly green is infused with gold shimmer and is shown using 2 coats.
Below: A brush comparison of the two featured colors will show you a huge difference in the design. I personally find them both easy to work with.
My overall thoughts on the new Rimmel line are that they are far superior to many other drugstore polishes, and at $3.99 a piece, you're really getting a quality polish at a great price. I love the bottle design, the wider brush with the somewhat angled bristles make for an easy application, and the formula is excellent.

Rimmel Violet Metal

Rimmel Violet Metal (I know, I'm very late on these!) is an incredibly beautiful shade of violet with a strong blue flash of shimmer. I used 2 coats and photographed this under an Ott lamp. In lower lighting you see much less of the blue and it appears as a violet shimmer.


This is such an interesting polish--the first coat was quite streaky and it has almost a fuchsia undertone, as you can see around my cuticles. After the second coat, it becomes much more of a violet and the blue shimmer just takes over under any brighter lighting. It also has a duo chrome to it, which shifts from the violet, to blue, to a much redder tone of violet. Yesterday I posted Marine Blue, which I was very impressed with also. Nice job on these, Rimmel!

Rimmel Marine Blue

I picked up several of Rimmel's newest line back in February, so they're not that new anymore! My first choice to try was Marine Blue, and I have to say, I'm rather impressed with their latest line.


I have quite a few older Rimmel polishes, and these new ones seem far superior with regard to the formula. The application (2 coats) was very nice, and the coverage on this one was perfect. It has the Sally Hansen-type brush cut and wide, flat stem, only Rimmel seems to have a better quality control department inspecting these than Sally does. Like Sally Hansen's, the bottle opening is very small, and mark my words, one of these days I'm going to tip a bottle over that's designed with such a small opening! I love the shape of these bottles--they're heavy and substantial, and the square shape fits nicely into the rows of my collection (take note, Nicole by OPI!). This shade is a lovely medium turquoise shimmer with very fine particles that flash a lighter blue-green shade. I picked mine up at Walgreen's for $3.99, and although these are slightly smaller than average at .45 fl. oz., if they're all as nice as this one, then I'd have to say that they're a great value.
