I don't have to be me 'til Monday.
~ From Steve Azar's song by
the same name
I'm the country fan in the
family who likes this song,
but my husband had never
heard it before last Saturday.
It made him smile.
With a grueling travel schedule
of late and some stressful projects
at work, his weekends are more
precious than ever.
For those of us who work from
home, weekends have a different
rhythm and mood than the rest
of the week, too.
home, weekends have a different
rhythm and mood than the rest
of the week, too.
Even if your children aren't
old enough to be in school yet,
or if you are retired, those two
days off are still unique compared
to the five that precede them.
More people in the park,
at the mall and in the grocery.
Different anchors on the news
and weekend hosts on the radio.
New movies out at the theatre.
More children....everywhere.
Attending church on Sunday.
Can you feel it?
To me, Mondays have their
own quality.
Wistful for what has been.
Promising for what lies ahead.
There is an idiom in America
called the water cooler effect.
According to Wikipedia,
this phenomenon occurs when
employees at a workplace
gather around the office water
cooler and chat. It is a
synonym for gathering and
connecting people in a certain
environment.
When something exciting has
happened on TV or in the news,
it is said to have a water cooler
effect, meaning that it's what people
will be buzzing about the next day.
Mondays are big water cooler
days, as people reconnect and
talk about the highlights of
their weekend.
I reviewed my own weekend
highlights, sans water cooler, as I
carried out Monday's tasks, though
none of them had anything to do
with TV or the news.
Mine were about moments.
Finding a lone Stella D'oro
lily blooming even though
the plant had been cut nearly to
the ground several weeks ago.
Hearing the laughter of my
son and his friends floating up
from the basement where they
were celebrating his birthday
with a Friday night sleep over.
Watching our dog, Gracie, as she
rolled on her back on the carpet. My
husband and I call that particular
antic her it's great to be alive! move.
Sensing my daughter's excitement
as she got ready for a Halloween
party on Saturday night; loved
that she went as a secret agent!
Laughing with my hubby in
the grocery store. I can't even
remember what was funny, only
that I told him how much better
it was doing the marketing with
him along!
Oohing and awwing over
each pumpkin carved in our
kitchen and then test-lighted
in our powder room, lights off
and shades drawn.
After I savored each of these
moments on my wistful-hopeful
Monday, I realized that these
are the memories we stitch
together over time to become the
crazy-quilt thing that is our life.
And it occurred to me that it
would be wonderful to hear
your moments each week.
Like a virtual water cooler.
So starting November 7th, I'd love
it if you'd stop by and share your
Monday moments via a comment
or by linking up a post.
You can share any sort of moment
that you like, such as a
teaching moment
peaceful moment,
crafting moment
cooking moment
funny moment
junking moment
day in the life moment
proud moment
travel moment
cozy moment
cozy moment
or whatever other type of
moment
that is meaningful to you.
I for one, can't wait to hear
what moments you have
added to your own
quilt
called
life.
Will you join me?
xx
Suzanne
