Origins of Beauty

Add this to your summer reading: 14th century poet Jaun Ruiz's famous "Libro de Buen Amor" (The Book of Good Love). It's considered a Spanish literary wonder, but no matter how beautifully written, metaphors can't hide his very "man-centric" language. Ruiz defines beauty as "blond hair, small head, long neck, hairless face, arched feet and moist armpits," ALLURE says.
