A
gold facial,
$5K perfume, or
diamond lotion—fine, fine, fine. But a
$100 million diamond-emblazoned skull?
Ummm ... Amazingly, or disgustingly, it exists: British artist Damien Hirst has, well, sparkled up a human skull with 8,601 diamonds; a piece of gallery art he calls "For the Love of God." "The skull is entirely covered with small diamonds, including the nostrils, while one mega-diamond, weighing 52.40 carats, sits on its forehead," said
The New York Times. "We are told [it] belonged to a European who died at about 35, sometime between 1720 and 1810. His cranium, or rather its platinum cast, now sparkles like a strobe ball in a disco." What's next, a multimillion-dollar mummy? And more importantly, as our clever designer, Todd, pointed out: "This skull has teeth, and with all those diamonds, no
grill?" Ah, the unsolved mysteries.
