Foundation Coverage

Just how loyal are you to your foundation? And better yet, is your favorite formula actually betraying you? Today’s New York Times Style Section’s article on foundation is shedding new light, so to speak, on the varying configurations of the creamy cover-ups. Clinique’s Perfectly Real Makeup just launched eight new shades, and new options from Iman, SK-II, and YSL sport new solutions and modes of application that are changing the face of foundation—which raked in close to $2 billion dollars last year, by the way! Then, of course, there’s the issue of shade matching—what looks natural under artificial light often looks artificial in natural light. Laura Mercier’s tip: “If you take your salesperson and go out onto the street and check, true light will resolve this question.” (We’d heed her advice, considering her Oil-Free Foundation is totally dreamy.) Check out the story for more professional tips and quips about finding the best solutions and how to avoid mask-like makeup. P.S.: Not so into foundation? Try Benefit’s new Some Kind-A Gorgeous. It covers without coating.
