Do men really grow old gracefully—or are they getting a little help from their friends? Dermatologists, plastic surgeons and hair stylists, that is. According to the article Men in Shanghai Go Under Knife For Beauty in the China Daily, a growing number on males in Shanghai are realizing just how beneficial cosmetic surgery, an über-hip hair cut and a high-tech moisturizer can be. Recent figures, notes the article, show more and more men are booking appointments at beauty salons and scheduling some minor nips and tucks. Sociologists in China blame it on the pressures of marriage and the competitive, youth-driven business landscape. Has the same vanity made its way to the states? According to the American Society for Plastic Surgeons, 12% of all cosmetic surgery patients were men in 2005. You be the judge.
