I liked her right away.
Sure, someone tried
to make her blend in
with the others.....
But she had a
style all her own.
Curves
Tiny feet
Elegant lines
She shone.
Crouching, I dug her
out from underneath
plain metal trays,
cookie sheets and
banana bread pans.
Her complexion
wasn't perfect, but
to me that meant that
her previous lives had
not taken place upon
shelves or in the deep
recesses of dark cupboards.
She'd seen the light
of day and carried
her share of burdens.
She had stories
to tell.
Yes, my friends, this
is why I love vintage things.
Their memories.
After I brought my
tray-chic friend home
from the Goodwill Store,
I set about polishing
her up.
The tatoo on her backside
read
John Seymour, LTD.
Silver on Copper
Made in England
England!
Alas, what looked like
just tarnish was actually
corrosion that went deep
down to her copper core.
Pretty details
My researcher {aka, Mom}
read that this can happen
when citrus comes in
contact with silver.
As I polished ~
and polished
and polished
and polished ~
I began day dreaming
about my shiny new friend.
How did a beauty from
England end up under the
banana bread pans at a
thrift store in
Vancouver, Washington?
Her cute feet : )
Was she passed down from
generation to generation,
lovingly serving tea and perhaps
cold pitchers of lemonade
to family and friends?
Did she possibly accompany
her last owner to a rest home,
only to be tossed as junk
due to the imperfections
caused by the lemonade?
She can't tell me.
And it doesn't matter.
She will go home with me
to Minnesota and like those
that owned her before, I
will not let her languish, but
will press her into service.
Love the scalloped edge
I might even have her
re-dipped, so she can shine
like she did in the old days.
Or I may just love her as
she is.....perfectly imperfect.
Now, I just need a name.
{Yeah, I'm weird that way.}
Any ideas?
There is a kind of
beauty
in imperfection.

and found the exact same
