My friend Joe says a lot of strange things, but he officially raised the bar this weekend. "Oh, so guys, I got cupped today," he beamed, followed by a horrifying show of the spa wounds on his back. (See: How to weird out your friends.) But apparently fire cupping, a lesser-known form of acupressure that involves suctioning the skin with cups, is all the rage in Vietnam, the Balkans, Greece, Mexico, Russia, you name it. The process, which ran Joe 55 big ones for 30 minutes at a spa downtown, can relieve toxins and stress in your body, and even soothe muscle tension and back injury. Joe claims he felt like a whole new person. So, ignoring for a second that he looked like he was mauled by a fiery pogo stick? Maybe there's something to this. —Jessica Anderson, Sephora
