I'm on my second tube of Vitamin E Stick with a few more in my back-up stash, so I can tell you that this is my personal favorite for an everyday lip balm. I'm on my second bottle of Tan Without Sun, and I had yet to find a self-tanner that I was totally pleased with--until this one. The scent evaporates almost immediately, it absorbs quickly, and the results are fast and long-lasting. There is no streaking with this product and the color is a natural bronze without orange tones. I just recently began using the other 3 products included in this prize package, and am very pleased with everything about them. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a slacker when it comes to using sunscreen on a daily basis. The Sun Protective Moisturizer has taken the place of my normal face cream, and I actually prefer the way it feels. It seems to absorb much better and I know it's safer for my skin to be using something with an SPF. I've recently realized this would be a great product for my hands as well.

I was introduced to Reviva Labs and their products several months ago, and one of the things I like most about their products, is that the majority of them can be used for more than one purpose. My husband has been using the Willard Water Skin Smoother at my request so I could have a broader idea of how it works, and he claims that it's very soothing on his face after shaving. He is a man of few products (unlike myself!), and he asked me yesterday if I could get him more when it runs out, so I would say that he likes it! This is a gel-like product that can be used to soothe and moisturize after shaving or waxing, as well as an additional aid in moisturizing and healing dry skin. The DMAE Cream is also a multi-use product--used under a moisturizer as noted above to give your skin additional protection from the sun, or used as a firming night cream, which is how I've been using it. This cream contains antioxidants which work to repair damaged skin and prevent future damage.

Check out their web site for a library of information on skin care and how the ingredients interact and work in each product. Reviva Labs does not test on animals and their products contain no animal ingredients.

Reviva Labs Hand Facial Treatment

Continuing a look at some of the hand/nail care treatment options featured in the Friday Follower Freebie prizes this month (watch for these this Friday!), today I have some products from Reviva Labs, which are all multi-purpose, meaning they can be used as facial and/or hand care treatments. All of the products featured in the FFF during June are ones that I have found to work well in my rotation of products and routines.

These are the products used to give yourself a "Hand Facial" at home. I've been using this routine once a week for a month, and have not only enjoyed the process, but I've been very happy with the results. The products include L-R: Light Skin Peel, Hydrogen Peroxide Green Papaya Mask, Skin Energizing Gel, and EFAs Cream. This can be done as a two-step or a four step routine, as you'll read more about below. note: to see a complete list of product ingredients, click the product name links.

Step 1 Below: Apply the Light Skin Peel (which was originally designed as a facial mask, so it works nicely for that also) ($20.00) on the back of your hands. Allow it to dry (about 3-5 minutes), and I find it best to do the removal over the sink--then rub it off with a dry towel. It can almost be peeled off, but I use a towel to get off the excess. This is a fairly thick lotion that has a strong scent, which reminded me of Oregano. It actually has Oil of Thyme in it, which would explain the scent. The particles you're seeing are crushed almonds, which aid in exfoliation.

Step 2 Below: Massage the Hydrogen Peroxide Green Papaya Mask (another product that works for the face as well) ($11.00) into your hands. I mainly keep this on the back of the hand area and massage a little extra into the cuticle area. This is left on for 10 minutes, and then I remove it with a warm, wet wash cloth. Finish up by rinsing your hands with warm water. The scent of this is fresh and light, and it has an oily feel, as you can see in the photo of my hand below before rinsing it off. The oils it contains include Sunflower, Soybean, and Lanolin. This completes the two-step process, but I continue with Steps three and four for added benefits.

Step 3 Below: I then continue the process by applying a small amount (one pump--you can see how little is needed in the palm of my hand) of Skin Energizing Gel ($10.00) into the nail bed. This product is rich in active and trace minerals, which Reviva believes are necessary for nail strength. As with all of these products, this too can be used as a facial product.
Step 4 Below: To complete the treatment, I apply the EFAs (Essential Fatty Acid) Cream ($25.00) as a moisturizer. Originally formulated for thin skin, users with all levels of dry skin are reporting that it is providing fuller and smoother skin. I've been using this on my face and will do a proper review of it soon as a facial moisturizer/treatment, but it's working very well for that also. This medium consistency lotion absorbs nicely and contains 10 natural oils, although it doesn't leave a greasy feeling.
This extra hand-pampering routine takes about 20-25 minutes and the results are immediate. My hands look smoother and the lines seem to have diminished noticeably. My hands and skin in general are what I would consider average when it comes to dryness. You know how you look at your hands and think they look a little dry? For about 3-4 days after I do this treatment, they don't ever look that way. There is a lot of information on their website about the ingredients they use, and I also have quite a bit of literature I've been reading and re-reading. I'm certainly no scientist or skin care expert, but I have been nothing short of impressed with their products. I've been reading a number of reviews from Diana at Painted Lady Fingers blog on Reviva products, and she seems to be getting excellent results as well.
What I like about these products also, is that they can be used on your face and your hands, with good results that you can see right away. Their distribution has mainly been through health care stores so while they may not be as well-known as many brands, their longevity on the market (37 years) and the attention to the science behind their products, not to mention the results I've achieved, have made me a believer.

Start to Finish Product Reviews: Pureology, Redken, Biosilk, Reviva

The Start to Finish Series contains condensed product reviews of some of the items I've used up over the past month, and my thoughts on them after having used them long enough to give them a thorough review. We often review a product or read a review about a product, but don't often see a follow up. Speaking for myself, I know I've tried products that seem impressive at first, only to find that after prolonged use, they do have their flaws. The same can be said for not giving a product a chance--I've used many products that didn't seem to do anything for me after one or two uses, only to return to it later and have it turn out that perhaps it's not something that gives instant gratification, but after a fair amount of time, they become staples in my routine. First up, Pureology Volume Shampoo & Conditioner:

Above: I have some styling products from this line that I like rather well, so I wanted to try their shampoo and conditioner. I have very fine hair, and not nearly as much of it as I'd like! It's also colored and highlighted most of the year, so I chose the Volume line. These run about $25.00 for each one, so I really wanted these to work so I could justify the price! Pureology products are extremely condensed and you don't need to use much product, but honestly, I find that most shampoos and conditioners work just as well using less rather than more. Keep in mind, my hair isn't that long, just about 2" below my ear lobes, so that may not be true for everyone. The anti-fade complex is designed to keep your hair color true without fading, which is what I need because my hair tends to fade to a copper color, especially when I'm out in the sun, as I am quite a bit this time of year. Unfortunately, these products didn't work for me. After using them for a week, I noticed that my hair was extremely dry and less shiny than usual. I chalked it up to other products, a bad color job, too much heat styling--until I thought maybe it was the shampoo and conditioner. After switching to my usual Redken products, my hair was back to normal within 2 days. I went back to the Pureology again, this time for 3 weeks, and I made sure to use styling products that always soften my hair (Redken Satin Wear and CHI Silk Infusion), and it didn't seem to stop the dryness. As far as keeping the color in tact, it did seem to do that, but no more than other products that I've used for this purpose. We're always looking for a miracle product, but for me, this this pair isn't it. I have to remember that just because something costs more, doesn't mean it will perform more.

Below: Redken Color Extend is what I was using last summer and what I'll return to. I use the same small amount of these products as I did of the Pureology ones, and it keeps my hair soft and shiny while keeping the color with little to no fading. I picked this pair up at JC Penney for $20.00, so my wallet will be happier too!
Below: Biosilk Thermal Shield was yet another product I picked up in looking for the perfect heat protectant. As far as protecting my hair, it did do a good job of this. I flat iron my fine hair daily, after blow drying, so it's subjected to a lot of heat. I was a little put off by the fruity scent of this product, but I continued to use it all up. I didn't notice any difference in the damage that my hair sustains by the time I went in for my next trim, so I'd have to say that while I'm sure it protected my hair somewhat, it didn't do any better job than what I'd previously been using. This spray-on product was extremely heavy on my hair, to the point that it was so wet after lightly spraying it on after blow drying, that it caused my natural curls to come out after I'd already dried it. It also made my hair so stiff when it finally dried, that I had a hard time getting a comb through it before flat ironing it. This retails for about $12.00-$14.00 for a 12 oz. bottle, and you'd think I'd quit buying products and stick to what has worked in the past for me, wouldn't you?
Below: After my personal "fails" above, I'm happy to report a huge "pass"! This is a follow-up to a product I was sent to review at the end of March (see original review here). This is my tube of Reviva Labs Vitamin E Oil Stick, which lasted almost 2 months for me. It's recommended for use as a lip balm and an eye area moisturizer. I use it on my lips and on my cuticles, if I don't have cuticle cream handy. It's light, long-lasting, has little to no scent, is colorless, and retails for $4.00 a tube. I scraped it down to the point where I would've had to dig it out with a toothpick to get any more!
Below: My all time favorite lip balm, Palmer's Cocoa Butter stick, is no longer my favorite.
Below: I knew I would have to get more of this product, so I did. I love the way it feels on my lips, and I appreciate how long it lasts. When I'm not wearing it, my lips still feel soft and nourished. It's not designed for use on cuticles, but it does a good job on them too.
That's it for this month. It's always nice to use something up, but it's even nicer to find a product that really works for me. Let's hope that next month, whatever products I manage to finish up, I'll make wiser choices and they'll all be winners for me!

Product Review: Reviva Labs Vitamin E Oil Stick

I've been reviewing some products from Reviva Labs and today I'd like to share my thoughts with you on their Vitamin E Oil Stick. This product is billed as a lip and under eye protectant and contains natural ingredients such as Soybean Oil, Candelilla Wax, Beeswax, Castor Oil, Olive Oil, and Vitamin E. This comes in a lipstick style tube and retails for $4.00. It can be found on their website, as well as chain stores such as GNC, Ulta, and many natural health type of stores. I've been using mine for about 2 weeks now and have been impressed not only with the effect on my lips, but also on the under eye area and my cuticles. This product has an SPF 15 and because it has a beeswax base, it seems to last longer on all areas of my skin. I am constantly applying some type of lip product, and this lightweight balm is perfect for me. I use it on my lips as a base before applying color, and also over the color to add shine. My lips are left soft, and even when the product wears off, they still feel moisturized. I also dab some on my under eye area for added protection and moisture, and even apply it to my cuticles to diminish the dryness. This is a clear product with no color, and it has no scent or flavor to speak of. I don't know that it's made for use on the cuticles, but it's a very portable product for that. I carry it in my purse and massage a small amount around my nails for instant softness and moisturization. The packaging is simple, the product is a multi-tasker, and the results are evident.

Friday Follower Freebie x Five!

Today's FFF includes a product review, and in staying with the St. Patrick's Day theme, we've tied everything together in a nice little green display! Because of the generosity of Reviva Labs, we're going to have 5 winners instead of the customary 1 or 2. Each winner will receive 2 bars of Reviva Lab's All Natural Seaweed Soap, 1 bottle of Studio M (formerly Massini) Jade or Energy nail lacquer, and a sprinkling of mint cup candies, all tucked into a festive green bucket!

Reviva Labs is as a company whose origins are in professional skin care salons, and they produce some of the finest skin care available. I know this for a fact because I've been reviewing some of their other products (which I'll post about later this month), and am nothing short of being very impressed with them. I don't post all of the product lines I review, because honestly, if I don't care for them, I don't want to spend the time to post a formal review. Now if something were to be completely unacceptable for whatever reason, I would certainly inform you of that, because I would want you to be aware. There are many mediocre beauty/skincare products out there, but the ones I'm interested in and the ones that I want to make you aware of, are the ones I choose to spend my time on. With that being said, on to the review!

The All Natural Seaweed Soap, is a vegetable based soap made from palm and coconut oils. The seaweed grains provide gentle exfoliation while also removing impurities from your skin. Seaweed has long been touted as a skin care product for it's diverse cleansing and anti-cellulite properties. This soap also contains glycerin to help your skin maintain the softness imparted from the coconut and palm oils. I've been using this soap for over a week now and have no negative issues with it. It lathers up nicely and rinses clean without any drying effect on my skin. It has a light fragrance and the seaweed grains seem to be just the right size to do the job right without any scratching on my skin. What I like the most about this soap is how moisturized my skin feels. Normally, especially in the still-cool weather we're having, my skin feels like I need to apply a moisturizer to it. After using this soap, I no longer have that feeling. I was even able to enlist my husband to help me out with this review, and if you knew my husband, that doesn't happen too often! He was just as pleased as I was with it and has been using his bar faithfully. If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know that I always enjoy using natural based products. Reviva Labs is known for their ability to provide many natural and effective products, and although I had heard of them, it wasn't until I read through some of their literature that I realized exactly what this company was all about. They have been in business for over 37 years, and their founder, Stephen Strassler, was one of the first Aestheticians in the U.S. They offer a wide range of basic and specialty skincare products, which can be found in many health food stores, and on their website. All of the ingredients for each product can be found on their site, and there are a number of navigational links at the top of the page filled with useful information on skin care.

THE RULES: You must be a follower to enter. You must leave your eMail address below in the comments section as your entry. You must submit your entry no later than midnight tomorrow, March 13. Remember, there will be 5 winners! Good luck!
