Revlon Fire Fox

Good morning, Dear Reader!

I've been neglecting you this week because I've been pretty uninspired as far as interesting manicures lately.  Then yesterday, I saw the display for the Revlon Matte Suedes, which I've seen before, but they appealed to me enough to pick them up yesterday, and I was eager to try Fire Fox out.

I used a ridge filling base coat, then three coats of Fire Fox.  Mine was quite thin, so it needed three to get opaque.  Once it dried, I absolutely hated it.  My vision was of a vivid, shimmery red that was matte, so it wouldn't really look real.  What I got was a moderately shiny, not too shimmery, rubbery feeling thing happening.  I took a picture anyhow so I could tell you about it.

The other weird thing was that there were parts that would not dry at all.  I didn't feel like doing my nails again, so I figured I'd top coat it.  I used RBL Matte top coat to see if that would make it look like what I had in mind.

Now it's matte and the rubbery feeling is gone, but there's still no shimmer to speak of.  To be honest, if I have to add matte top coat to take the shine off of a matte nail polish, that's a kind of crappy polish.  So I'll likely return Fire Fox's friends that have not been opened because this was no fun at all.

That's the update for today, Dear Reader.  Until next time, love and nail polish to you!

OPI Here Today... Aragon Tomorrow Suede

Good evening, Dear Reader!

I'd recently ordered OPI's Here Today... Aragon Tomorrow Suede from Trans Design, and have swatches of it for you.  The pictures were taken in somewhat low natural light, first matte, then shiny.

I used ridge filling base coat under this, since mattes are so unforgiving, but made sure it was dry before applying the nail polish.  I used two coats of Here Today... Aragon Tomorrow Suede.  It applied easily and is much thinner and less pigmented than the other OPI Suedes.

I added one coat of top coat to it, but it wasn't perfectly smooth that way.  To fix it, I added a coat of Gelous and then another top coat, and it's nice and shiny and shimmery.

I like it.  It's greener and less black than the regular version of the color, and seems to be an improved version of the Suede formula.  It's a lot of coats, but since the color dries so fast, it's not a big deal.

That's all for today, Dear Reader.  Until tomorrow, love and nail polish to you!

Nubar The Night Sky & Nubar 2010 Preview

Good afternoon, Dear Reader!

I just got a package from Nubar with samples of their new releases from May 1, Nubar 2010 and The Night Sky Collection.  Nubar 2010 is their 10th anniversary color, and I just did a preview of one swatch of it because I was racing a storm for light.  Nubar 2010 is like Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure all hyped on a couple of pots of coffee, so it will get its own post later.  I happened to be wearing Chanel Black Satin when I got it, so I slapped on a coat and took some pictures.  The Night Sky Collection is a collection of mattes packaged with a bottle of Diamont to make them super shimmery normal nail polishes.

First, the Nubar 2010 preview.  Here's a picture of the bottle.

Here's one coat over Black Satin from two different angles in relatively low natural light.

Can you see why this one's going to need its own post on a day when I have good light?  Two things I noticed are how shiny it is and that it's super quick drying.  I see real potential for this one!

On to The Night Sky Collection.  It consists a silver, golden bronze, and charcoal, all very shimmery, and packaged and advertised to be worn either matte or with top coat, so I took pictures of both.  I'll show you without, then with, for each.  All three were quite smooth to apply, took two coats, were very fast drying, and are smooth with one coat of top coat.

Sunset is the golden bronze.

Twilight is the silver.

Midnight is the charcoal, and this one is over a base of Nubar Foundation.  I'm wearing this one.

Those are Nubar's new offerings for us.  There's rain in the forecast for me for the next few days, but as soon as I have some sun I'll swatch Nubar 2010 over different colors so we can see what happens.

That's all for today, Dear Reader.  Until next time, love and nail polish to you!
