In its newsletter sent out last week, ELLIS FAAS has shone the spotlight on its Creamy Lips L105. ELLIS FAAS calls it a reddish-brown but to me, it looks copper/coral brown.
I had already been planning a couple of autumn-related posts using the Creamy Lips L105 that I received from ELLIS FAAS a few weeks ago, so this newsletter certainly came at a good time.
I wrote a whole review on the Creamy Lips almost two years ago (one of the first items I purchased from the ELLIS FAAS line - L106) and my opinion about it remains the same. This liquid lip colour offers high coverage, is pigment-rich, very moisturising, melds with the lips, fairly longlasting and leaves a sheen on the lips.
I still like to call it moisturising velvet. Seen here is L105 applied thickly. You can of course dab on lightly for just a hint of colour.
The Creamy Lips range retail for €25 / £22 / USD35 each.
In the newsletter, there was also a discount code. Use SNOWL105 for a 10% discount on your whole order.
It’s been some time since I last put together an eye look using ELLIS FAAS products. Today, I’ve combined my three favourite shades from ELLIS FAAS. These were the products I used:
L-R: Creamy Eyes E106 (matte light brown with a tinge of lilac, taupey) Milky Eyes E203 (dark blue with a hint of shimmer) Light E305 (holographic Bordeaux) Mascara E401 (black)
Creamy Eyes E106 has certainly grown on me. It’s such a curious shade of light brown, like hot chocolate with lots of milk mixed in. Taupey. But then, look at it again and this light brown seems purply, like lilac. I like how it gives the lid a nice wash of colour: a safe, unobtrusive brown without being the staid, conventional brown.
I’ve gushed about the other two shades previously, so I shan’t repeat myself here.
To get this look, I: 1. Applied with fingers the light brown/lilac of Creamy Eyes E106 all over the lid. 2. Dabbed with finger the dark blue of Milky Eyes E203 on the middle and outer part of the lid. Fade out the colour so that there aren’t hard edges. 3. Dabbed with finger the metallic turquoise / Bordeaux of Light E305 on the outer corner of the lid, some parts overlapping with the blue in the middle section. 4. Lined the upper and lower lash line with E305 with an angled eyeliner brush. 5. Then tightlined and waterlined using the blue of E203. 6. Curled lashes and applied Mascara E401.
Just from looking at the colours used, I expected it to be quite a neutral look but in fact, the end result is a metallic look edging towards the dark side. It's definitely a night out look. It does look quite dramatic in person.
It's been a long time since I last used ELLIS FAAS Eye Light E305, that duochrome metallic turqoise-burgundy liquid eyeshadow (well, wasn't that a mouthful?!). The last time I used it was when I tried out two looks suggested by Ms Faas for the Winter Glow gift set. I think I overdosed on E305 back then.
I anticipated some problems with clogging in the pen and decided to give the applicator brush a good wash. Applying the same method and using the same precautions as when washing makeup brushes, I gave the E305 brush applicator a good wash with water and cleanser. This was what the brush looked like after it dried - nice and clean.
There was still a bit of solidified eyeshadow further inside that couldn't be washed out. I managed to extract that with a clean toothpick. With that done, I didn't experience any clogging problems with this pen.
For this eye look, I used:
Milky Eyes E204 - petrol green Light E305 - duochrome turqoise-burgundy Eyeliner E501 - matte black Mascara E401 - black
Milky Eyes E204, Light E305 (swatched lightly)
Upper lid: • Applied the petrol green of E204 on the lid with a brush, used finger to fade out the edges and add a hint of colour to the outer corner. • Used an eyeliner brush to draw Light E305 on the lid fold, wing-ed it. • Used an angled eyeliner brush to line upper lash line with Eyeliner E501, follow the wing of E305.
Lower lid: • Lined lower lash line with a bit of Light E305.
This is a look I've done with the ELLIS FAAS Autumn Set 2011, mixed with some other products from this brand. I've also used one of the Lights on the inner corners of the eyes and a bit on the lashes (the latter is totally optional, of course).

For autumn this year, ELLIS FAAS has put together a set of three of its products - two eye products plus one lip colour - and is offering it at a special price. The ELLIS FAAS Autumn Set 2011 consists of:
Before we take a closer look at these items, I think you might want to watch this cool ELLIS FAAS video first, if you haven't already. We all know that the FAAS family members are a talented and creative lot but this video is truly a testament to that fact. It's weird, edgy, poignant, artsy and beautiful all in one. Blotches of colours that seem to make no sense, do make sense if you take a step back. Some of the 'paints' used were colours from the brand's cosmetics range.
The video was launched a week ago and it now presides on the homepage of the ELLIS FAAS website. This is what Ellis says (from the newsletter):
As a late teenager, I visited the Tate Gallery in London and was blown away by a Francis Bacon triptych. It made a great impression on me because of the use of colour - it was unnerving and stunningly beautiful at the same time. Bacon inspired many experiments I did over the years. I now think it has become something of my own and hasn't much to do with Bacon any more.
The video was shot in Ellis' home, with Ellis the one responsible for the 'artwork' and photography. The person that you see in the video is Thijs, Ellis' brother (and right-hand man) and the music was composed and recorded by none other than Ellis' daughter, Flavia. The video is aptly called A Family Affair.
The Autumn 2011 Set
I received this set from the folks at ELLIS FAAS last week and have been playing around with the three pens. This isn't a review per se as I have already written extensive articles on these items (albeit featuring different shades) in the past year and a half but I will offer some input where needed.
Milky Eyes E204
What used to be a doe-foot-like applicator for Milky Eyes is now a brush applicator, ie it looks just like the Creamy Eyes applicator now. Milky Eyes liquid eyeshadows are not as heavy and opaque as Creamy Eyes but that means it's easier to sheer Milky Eyes eyeshadows out compared to Creamy Eyes. These liquid eyeshadows don't need an eyeshadow base.
E204 is a petrol green.
Mascara E401 It's a black mascara with an unusually long wand, which takes some getting used to. It's not a waterproof mascara.
Creamy Lips L102 The Creamy Lips range are full-on, highly pigmented liquid lipcolours. L102 is a dark beetroot shade (ELLIS FAAS calls it deep cherry). It's one that definitely packs a punch. You can apply it thickly for the most impact: It looks vampy and goth-like against lighter skin tones and it would complement brown skin beautifully. Or, you can dab the colour lightly on your lips for fruit-stained lips.
I never need to use any lipbalm as a base whenever I use Creamy Lips. Creamy Lips has a very moisturising formula and it can last for about 6 hours with one good application. The colour does fade over the hours and with eating and drinking. The fading of this dark shade is very telling with food and drinks. I end up with a dark outline of the lips, so that needs touching up afterwards.
L: Milky Eyes E204; R: Creamy Lips L102
The Autumn Set 2011 costs €60.00 / USD80.00 / £50.00. That works out to be a savings of €14.00 compared to what you would pay if you purchased the items separately.
For mascara, I used Josie Maran GOGO Instant Natural Volume Argan Mascara (which I got from Jeanie of Makeup Merriment).
A quick note for those who are not too familiar with ELLIS FAAS liquid eyeshadows:
• There is no need to apply an eyeshadow primer. The Creamy Eyes and the Milky Eyes eyeshadows are notoriously longlasting on their own.
• I personally prefer using the fingers to apply these liquid eyeshadows as it allows better control and it's easier to smudge out the edges with the finger. I use a brush only for eyelining and when precision is required.
What I did for this look:
1. Applied with finger a thin coat of the khaki brown of E205 on the entire moving lid.
2. Did the same with the dark brown of E104 on the lid fold, ie. over the lower half of the khaki brown.
3. With the remaining E104 on the applicator, used an eyeliner brush to line the outer two-thirds of the lower lash line.
Three coats of eyelining
4. Used an angled eyeliner brush to line the upper lash line with the black Eyeliner E501. Gave it a stubby wing.
5. Used another eyeliner brush to apply a thin coat of Light E301 on the black eyelining.
6. Went over that again with a thin coat of the black Eyeliner E501, so that the eyelining is a mix of black and metallic beige.
7. Lined the inner one third of the lower lash line with Light E301.
Here’s another look that I’ve put together. This one took a bit longer than expected to complete, mainly because of the wing-ed eyelining on the bottom. This is my first ever attempt at mirrored wing-ed eyelining.
The products used were:
L-R: Milky Eyes E203 (dark blue with a hint of shimmer) Creamy Eyes E106 (matte light brown with a tinge of lilac) Light E301 (metallic light beige) Creamy Eyes E103 (matte black) Mascara E401 (black)
I love the beautiful blue of E203 (left). That bit of shimmer that it has helps to add more character to the blue.
Here’s what I did:
1. Applied Milky Eyes E203 on the upper lid with finger. First, applied a thin layer all across the lid, to just above the eyelid fold. Then, dabbed on a thicker layer of E203 close to the lash line (in my case, the area where the eyelid folds).
2. Used a small eyeshadow brush to apply Creamy Eyes E106 to the outer two-thirds of the bottom lid, extending it further on the outer corner. It’s almost like lining the bottom lid very thickly, but it won’t look OTT because of the neutral subdued colour of E106.
3. Applied Light E301 to the inner corner of the eye using an eyeliner brush. Continue by thinly lining the entire bottom lash line with E301, ie a thin lining of shimmery E301 on top of the thick matte E106. Note: This isn't waterlining.
4. Used an angled eyeliner brush to line the upper lash line with Creamy Eyes E103. Wing-ed the line.
5. Used the angled eyeliner brush to line the outer two-thirds of the lower lash line with the blue of E203. The line was drawn just below the thin shimmery line of E301. Wing-ed the line to (almost) mirror the eyelining of the upper lid. This blue lining is a bit fuzzy, as opposed to the sharp and distinct lining of the upper lid.
6. Curled lashes and applied Mascara E401.
I think this look can carry you from daytime to nighttime. Personally, I don’t think it’s too much for daytime. In these close-up photos, it may look rather intense but in person, much of the intensity is drowned out.
