New Quirius Shades: Part I

The day has gotten away from me today, and rather than get all 6 of the new shades from Quirius/QRS swatched, I only managed to do 3. I'm not complaining though, because the sun is shining today, unlike yesterday!

Above & Below: Madam Crimson, a deep dark red shade, applied nicely using 3 thin coats. It looks quite dark in the bottle and the first coat was light and more red-pink toned, so I wanted to build it up and see if it darkened, which it did. The photo below is true to color (in partial shade), and the photo below, taken in full sun, is showing lighter than it actually looks. I tried photographing it under an Ott lamp and those photos were light too, for some reason.

Below: Scent of Lilac is not one I thought I'd care for, because pastel cremes + my inability to apply them = mess! I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this one looked though, and used 2 coats without any issues. This one dried to a slight matte or satin finish--not a bad thing, but it's not a high gloss like Madam Crimson.

Below: Scent of Lilac in the shade. I would call this shade a pink-toned lavender.

Below: Frozen Tears, although pretty, didn't "wow" me quite as much as I thought it would. In the bottle, I had visions of L'Oreal's Party Hop, but this one really isn't comparable to that. This light lavender metallic shade has plenty of sparkle, especially when the sun reflects off of the silver glitter.

Below: In the shade and in darker, lower lighting indoors, the lavender becomes less prominent and it almost looks like a silver foil. I used 2 coats and had some slight brush strokes, which is typically the case with metallic finishes.

I'm a poor judge of character when it comes to first impressions, both with people and polishes I think! Scent of Lilac was immediately one of my least favorites in the bottle, just because I'm not a fan of pastel cremes because I've not met too many of them that apply well for me. This one proved me wrong though, because I liked it quite a bit. All three of these applied well and the formulas seemed fine--not too thick or streaky. These will be available soon on the QRS site and they retail for $3.00 each, or you can build a Free Choice set, choosing any 6 shades, and pay $15.00, saving yourself $3.00. Someone mentioned the other day that the Free Choice set was not available, but I just checked and it seems to be back.
