Young and the Age-less

Forever young, forever young. May you stay forever young ... If only. But thanks to a new study suggesting human stem cell injections can reverse aging—in what the New York Post calls “space-age regeneration”—there could be a new shot (literally) at staying young and beautiful. In the study, which was run by a biotech company called Advanced Cell Technologies (ACT), rats with retinal diseases markedly improved when injected with retinal cells from human embryonic cells. So naturally, ACT is anxiously looking to cross-apply the results to human health and beauty. As one of its scientists put it: “We believe it’s possible to take a cell from the human body, even an old one, and take it back to the state of a young cell. We call that cellular pre-programming and scientists are seeing a lot of promise in it. This is the real McCoy.” These sentiments echo those of a company called Voss Laboratories—the brains behind Strivectin—who are similarly pushing a controversial cream called Amatokin that fights again with stem cell technology. (Amatokin is currently available at Sephora overseas or directly through Voss.) So get out that thank you card to laud these mastermind scientists, or your picket sign to protest their immorality, whichever your take on this beauty breakthrough. ACT plans to apply for clinical research on humans by end of year.
