How to Tease Hair Without Damage
Before beginning the process of teasing hair, let’s make sure you have all of the tools that you’ll need:- A boar’s bristle brush or a finer tooth comb to actually do the backcombing.
- Your standard comb to help you style your hair.
- Some clips to help keep the hair you aren’t teasing out of the way.
- Strong-Hold Hairspray to help hold the teased hair in place.
A few other things you should do in order to prepare for backcombing are:
- If you are going to want the length of your hair to be curled, do that before you begin the teasing process.
- If your hair is already curly or wavy, make sure it has been straightened by either a blow dryer or a flat iron. Teasing curly hair will result in tangles.
Steps to Teasing
- Section your hair so that the hair you are not backcombing is out of the way.
- Take a section of hair about an inch thick and hold straight up towards the ceiling.
- Grab your boar’s bristle brush or your fine tooth comb and gently comb your hair towards your scalp while holding the ends with your other hand.
- Make sure that the tangles you create have some resistance which gives the hair height.
- Do not brush or comb to harshly or you risk tearing your hair or getting the brush entangled in your hair.
- Once you finish a section, move on to the next section.
- You can repeat the steps if you don’t get the level of fullness that you’re looking for.
- Once complete, add some hair spray as well as some shine serum to smooth stray hairs
